Channing Hammond of Hammondmade is a pioneer in cycling innovation and a visionary in advanced metal fabrication, with over 25 years of award-winning design experience. In 1996, he founded Old Man Mountain Products, revolutionizing off-road bike touring with pannier racks that became the benchmark for quality and innovation in the category. Channing also built a limited number of custom bicycles, and his work earned honors including Best Aluminum Frame at the 2006 NAHBS and Winner of Shimano's 2008 Alpine Group Builder Challenge.
Channing grew up in a family immersed in Bonneville land speed racing on the salt flats of Utah, ultimately setting a land speed record at over 316 mph in a car he designed and built alongside his father. In fact, his father, mother, and sister all hold land speed records over 300 mph, which earns them all membership in the exclusive Bonneville 200 mph Club and 300 mph Chapter. After selling OMM in 2016, Hammond returned to land speed racing as a design and fabrication contributor to the Pilgrim Stubbs diesel-powered Bonneville streamliner built at Maxwell Industries. Following that successful build, Hammond is designing and building a revolutionary new car from the ground up for architect David Martin of AC Martin, while continuing to run a Santa Barbara–based design and fabrication studio specializing in aluminum constructions.
Hammond is also returning to the world of cycling. Unlike accessory brands that adapt to existing frames, Hammondmade designs complete bicycle systems—integrating frame geometry, components, and utility from the ground up. The mission is to create the "All-Day Bike": purpose-built platforms that balance comfort, performance, and utility for touring cyclists, urban commuters, and riders who rely on their bikes every day.
Hammondmade's debut collection will launch at the 2026 MADE Show in Portland, the leading showcase for independent builders and innovators. There, Hammond will present fully integrated solutions that embody his decades of cross-disciplinary expertise in cycling, fabrication, and racing. With a rider-centered vision and a commitment to timeless craftsmanship, Hammondmade redefines what's possible when performance and practicality move as one.
Through all of Channing's projects and passions, CAD design from the SolidWorks platform continues to be integral to his success, allowing his imagination to run wild and making possible the incredible and novel designs he is known for.
